Description

PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION THOROUGHLY, FOR MORE DETAILS, REGARDING THE SKETCHES!!!

Well, I told ya that I'd make some drawings about Freedom Planet.
With my personal ideas on what could be added or elsewhere done with the game.

I already sent an E-Mail with feedback and some of my concerns about the game.
so far it hasn't been replied to. But I am sure it has been read at least.
And that's what matters.
But I haven't addressed my ideas in this drawing to the FP-team yet.
So I am doing this now, while providing some rough visual examples.
I only have made rough sketches, nothing overly detailed.
But I think it gets the point across.

So without any further delay, let us get to the topic at hand.
As you see, I have put numbers on each seperate sketch.
So it'd make it a little easier to refer to each.

The two playable characters in the Demo, Lilac and Carol, already had some nice movesets.
Each with their own abilities.
Lilac is speed-based, able to run at high speeds, making full use of momentum and physics.
And having the "Dragon Dash" special move.
Carol is slower, but is able to wall jump and able to use those red jump pads.

However, my main critique point is that only Lilac truly benefits from the blue crystals.
Carol on the other hand, lacks a special Crystal-ability, making it rather pointless to collect the blue crystals, other than going for a high score.
True, she has the jump-pads. But that isn't a real substitude in my opinion.
I think it'd be good to split the special moves into the following:
- Main Ability
- Special/Crystal Ability
- Interactive Object

And this is where my sketches come into play.
They show additions that should plug the holes IMO.

Sketch 1 shows an Interactive Object for Lilac.
It's basicly a "Spinner", that works pretty much like the ones in "Metroid Prime".
Lilac can jump into them and then they will hold her.
She can use her "Dragon Dash" (Crystal-Ability) to power them.
And they can have various effects.
Like activating machines, opening doors, destroying otherwise unbreakable walls, etc.

And usually, there is always a way to charge your crystal-gauge, when near a Spinner, should you not have full Crystal-energy.
To prevent getting stuck.

Let's move to Sketch 2 and 3.
They show Carol using her special Crystal-ability.
A powerful punch than can break otherwise unbreakable stuff.
2 shows the standing variation.
In 3, the ducking-varation is shown, where Carol performs a ground-pound, that unleashes a big shockwave on both sides, that can destroy all enemies on the screen.
This varation also allows her to break the floor, when it is breakable.

This addition obviously has the benefit of giving Carol her own crystal-gauge.
Giving her a reason to collect them.
Her crystal-gauge also powers up differently.
While Lilac's gauge powers up while she is running at high speed, Carol's powers up when she is hitting enemies with her attacks.

Sketches 4 and 5 show Milla the Hound. An upcoming character for Freedom Planet.
Tho I can't be entirely sure, I do get the idea that she will be the third and last playable character of this game-

Her description on the Freedom Planet website makes her look like a character that focuses more on exploration.
And I gave her abilities that should suit an exploration-based moveset.

Sketch 4 shows her "interactive object".
Which are Special Ground Patches, where she can dig.
She can either big out items or dig into the ground or wall to get to new areas.

Sketch 5 shows her special Crystal-Ability.
Which I dub "Sixth Sense".
Basicly it allows her to detect hidden or "hard to see" items and objects.
It also allows her to see invisible stuff and see in the dark.

Unlike the other crystal-abilities, this one doesn't require the gauge to be full to be able for use.
As long as you have crystal-energy stored on your gauge, you can use it.
Use the special-button to toggle it on or off, while standing.
While this ability is in use, obviously it'll continously use up crystal-energy.
So do not waste it!

However, I didn't come up with a good way to charge up her gauge.
Doing it through flying would be rather cheap and would make it too easy to charge it.
And only relying on crystals for charging would be a little dull.

Then again, her ability doesn't require the crystal-gauge to be full to use her crystal-power.
And it won't be all used up in an instant.
So maybe we can get away with Milla only relying on crystals for charging.

So here a quick summary for the movesets.
Lilac
Main Ability: High Speed Running
Special Ability: Dragon Dash
Interactive Object: Spinner

Carol
Main Ability: Wall Jump
Special Ability: Power Punch/Quake Pound
Interactive Object: Jump Pads

Milla
Main Ability: Flying
Special Ability: Sixth Sense
Interactive Objects: Ground Patches for digging

So Lilac focuses on Speed, Carol on Power and Milla on Exploration.
That is my main idea.

So we've wrapped up the movesets.
But hold on, I am not done just yet.

The last two sketches show the villain, "Lord Brevon".
You know, I dunno if he constantly hides behind his robot-fleets or not.
But personally, it'd be a nice surprise if Brevon has some fighting-abilities and supernatural abilites of his own.
It'd also distinct himself more from Dr. Eggman/Robotnik.

So personally I am all for Brevon fighting all my himself in the final confrontation and having some supernatural abilities.

Sketch 6 shows him performing an EM-Disruptor.
This is more of a sketch for fun.
Giving that this attack is from Magneto in the Capcom fighting games, starring the X-Men.

Sketch 7 shows him levitating (as the little text says) and generating a protective barrier, that should protect him from any attacks for a short period of time.

Just a few basic ideas on what Brevon could be capable in a direct fight against him.
But I am sure Galaxy Trail Games can think of some good moves for Brevon, providing he is even meant to fight by himself in the first place.
If I go the wrong direction here, feel free to enlighten me. ;)

And this wraps up this drawing.
I know these are rough sketches, but I have to enjoy them anyways. :D
